I'm sort of back...

It's been a busy, stressful, and tough fall. My husband's stepmother, one of two of my mother-in-laws, fought a long battle with cancer, 3 years and 3 days to be exact. First it started with breast cancer, and she beat it. Then it snuck up and went to her jaw. They removed her right jaw and she was free and clear from cancer. Or so we thought, in February they were doing a routine check to make sure she was cancer free, and found two spots on her lungs. The doctor thought it was just scar tissue and not to worry. Unfortunately, he was wrong. It turned out to be LUNG CANCER. This women, my mother-in-law, is a fighter, a bull, an ox! Nothing could bring her down. She was amazing through her breast and jaw cancer. We thought she would make it through this, but unfortunately, we lost her this past Tuesday. The cancer had won. She put up a great fight to the bitter end!

DAMN YOU CANCER. I HATE YOU AND ALL THE PAIN THAT YOU HAVE CAUSED FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED YOUR HORRIFIC DISTRUCTION!!

We will miss you immensely Diana 'Dee"!!!

I went to my local Marshall's and TJ Max looking for a functional cute purse/bag to take with me for my trip to Maine tomorrow. Little Prep and I are meeting my dad up there for a mini vacay. Well, you know how the story goes, I went in looking for a purse, and ended up finding these cute things as well!

Scored this cute dress in the junior section for a whopping $19.99! I'm putting it together with this belt that I just purchased at The Dredgers Union, downtown Cleveland. People would laugh if they knew that the belt cost five times more than that the dress.

Another score from the junior section, I thought this oversized sweater would look great with a slim pair of jeans and boots. I love the detail of the buttons!

And lastly the purse, which isn't really what I had in mind but I thought it looked way more expensive that the asking price of $29.99! Love to wear over the shoulder bags, makes life so much easier when you have a 4 yr old to chase after! Picture does not do it justice at all.

Of course, Little Prep had to be in on the purchases, he wanted a plush red blanket for his new big boy bed and toys!

As always, I'm shopping right after I work out so I always look sweaty, gross, no make-up and ran into one of my friends whose always so well put together! I felt like such a slub when I saw her. Great to see you my friend, T!

2011 Family Reunion at CYC

Yesterday I spent a glorious day at my cousins yacht club for an annual or somewhat annual family reunion. People came from Arizona, Texas and Illinois! We had great weather and everyone had a fabulous time catching up and watching all the young kids play! Looking forward to the next gathering.

New Obsession, New Hobby

Found this dresser at a garage sale for $15. (Forgot to get a before pick but it was a drab wood finish) And here's what it looks like now. Painted this dresser, Coventry Blue with a hint of stain over it. It looks so much better in person and like something you'd find in a New England cottage. My mom is using it in her bedroom, she loves it.

You've all seen this piece I did a while back.

Things I'm loving these days...

I recently became obsessed with this Prive shampoo/conditioner for two reasons, 1) it's environmentally friendly (re-use and recycle containers) and 2) it smells absolutely divine. It's a bit pricey but I think my hair is worth it. About $25 for each bottle. But you don't need as much shampoo just a dallop and watch it grow to foam.

Another product that I love for my hair is Moroccan Oil. It's light weight, smells delicious and totally tames my frizzes!

Here is my new favorite nail color for the fall from Essie: Power Clutch!

Found this foundation at Ulta, Studio Gear! Great coverage without feeling heavy on your face.

And last but certainly not least, I discovered this designer, Alexis Bittar, through my very fashionable neighbor. I'm loving this hoops! Subtle and gorgeous! My birthday is this Thursday maybe I'll be lucky and receive a pair!

Nautical Cupcake How-to

Some one recently left a request as to how I made these Nautical Cupcakes from an old post here, I made regular vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting. For the nautical flags, I purchased primary colored fondant, you can buy this at any Michael's or cake supply store. I then, downloaded a copy of a nautical flag chart. I then proceeded to cut out the pieces to coordinate with whatever flag I was creating, wet the fondant pieces so that they will stick together when using different colors. It was very, very tedious but so much fun. Like playing with play-doh for an adult. I was quite surprised and so happy with the end results. So was my cousin. Hope this was helpful. So excited, the outdoor shopping mall near my home just recently opened up Anthropologie! It's been years since I've walked into one, back when I lived in Atlanta. So, finally having it up North is quite a treat. Of course, it's not good for my wallet! Happy Shopping.

I am way beyond the point of wanting to have a fairy tale wedding, like the one last Friday. It was this small wedding seen by all. Been there, done that. But it doesn't hurt to want to smell like a royal. Compare and Aghast!

I do a lot of comparing similar items at high end stores (if you will) to more realistic stores for the real person who has kids, a mortgage, bills, $3.70 a gallon for gas and a living in THIS crummy economy. So, I found these shoes at Anthropologie for $148 (not bad really)

And remembered that I saw a some what similar pair and Jean-Claude Penney (J. C. Penney's) for $39.99 same color (but it wouldn't let me copy the photo of same color so, I'm showing the red pair) for $39.99! Can't beat that.

Found this really cute bag at Anthro... for $78.00 (again not bad price) but saw a very similar one at Charming Charlie's (if you have one in your neck of the woods-check them out) for about $35.00 (sorry no photo of the Charming Charlie one) Great little bag for the summer.

Now on to my favorite store, J. CRACK. Love these espadrilles! Probably around $178

I want, I need, I have to have! I've been loving this bracelet since it came out last winter but waiting too long and it was gone. Well they have it again and I'm getting it. Love, love, love it!

I know, I know, this is like the umpteenth time I've apologized for my absence or lack of posting. But this girl has been working. I got a full time job and have been loving every minute of it. Working long hours and doing what I did before I had a husband and three kids. It's so fulfilling to be working and earning my own $$. I love my family and my kids but I'm just not a good stay-at-home mom. I applaud the women that can do the stay at home thing, but I'm more productive in an office staying busy. I wish I could be the mom that loves to visit zoos, libraries, museums, parks etc. Been there, done that. Had enough of it. Love you M, C and Little Prep but this momma needs to work! Hope you are all having a great March. I would love for the weather to warm up and soon!!! Ugh

Oui, Oui, Oui

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I went to this little sale, Sale on the Square, in a nearby town. The sale happens once a month so, if you like something that you see, you'd better get it then and there. She carries a lot of refinished furniture, french inspired decor and accessories. I was so inspired after leaving that I went straight to my local TJ Maxx to see if they had any more frenchy things to pick up for my house. Here's what I purchased at the sale on the square:

Cute little fleur-de-lis magnets, both bronze and the big cream one!

Fleur-de-lis hook. Would look nice in my upstairs bathroom for a towel!

So, here's the frenchy stuff I found at this local store here, Tuesday Mornings. (it's a lot like TJ Maxx but a lot smaller)

This gray basket was $11.99! It says "fleurs" so I hung it on the front door and bought some flowers at Wal-mart. Love it.

And this cute lamp. Can you tell I have an obsession with 'fleur-de-lis'.

Okay, so here's the fun things I got at TJ Maxx. A little french, a little Easter. (Three chicks for my three kids)

We had a fabulous time skiing! Little Prep started off on the wrong shoe but after a day of ski school he wanted to go in the 'big' hill with me and ski real fast. So we did. He has no fear, which is scary for me. The weather was fabulous, skiing was great. It was a blast. Can't wait to do it again. Here's a few pics from the trip. Oh, my husband was peeved that I am a better skier than he especially when I skied over this:

Yeehaw, the five of us are going skiing this weekend in New York. Thanks to my friend, G, she and her hubby have been so kind as to let us stay at their condo!!! I went to see the movie Black Swan with my sixteen year old step daughter last week! Wow, was that the most uncomfortable movie to watch with your 16 yr old step-daughter. I don't want to give anything away to those who plan on seeing it but let's just say that not only is it a "psychological thriller" as critics are saying but it's got some pretty racy sex scenes. I was totally squirming in my seat, hoping the scenes would end quickly! Oh my, I didn't even know what to say, I just kept grabbing my diet coke and drinking it like it was the last one I would ever have. Aside from the awkward scenes the movie was fabulous. It's no wonder Natalie Portman won the Golden Globe. I hope she wins the Oscar. The movie was thrilling, frightening, weird, and beautiful to watch all the lovely dancers. I would see it again, this time with a friend my age! I give it two thumbs up!! Natalie Portman is my new favorite actress, she is so gorgeous, talented, unpretentious, so NOT Hollywood and brilliant (hello Haarvaard Grad!) Definitely a must see!

It's been a while since I've really been into the blogging thing. I live up north, and as some of you know, when you live up north we tend not to see the sun for 6 months! Which means, low vitamin D levels. Long story short, my doctor put me on the very high dose of vitamin D prescribed pills that you take once a week for 3 months. I'm still feeling sluggish, tired and sort of blah. So, that explains the lack of posts. NO ENERGY or should I say, low energy. Anywoo, I'm back and wanted to share with you the fabulous, adorable, cute and new bags featured on Snappy Turtles website. I want one of each.

Okay, so I'm 4 days late but I've been busy and stressed and it's only 4 days into the new year. I had my bestest girlfriend, roommate, sorority sister in from New Jersey. She and I have known each other for a long time and I was so shocked to hear that she wanted to fly out to see me rather than spend it in NYC!!! We had a blast catching on the old times, shopping, eating, drinking and meeting some of my great friends! We rang in the new year with my family and then proceeded to eat pork and sauerkraut, which is supposed to bring you good luck in the new year. Well, I may not have eaten enough because while driving her to the airport, I got a flipping speeding ticket. Thanks Officer! Then there's just been some teen drama and it's stressing me out but I am making a new years resolution this year, that I'm not sweating the small stuff, I'm not going to let any one bring me down and I'm making this my year. To get back into the working world full time, laugh a lot, have a blast with my husband and family and be way more positive. Oh, yes and drop 10 lbs. I think that's about it for my resolution list. I'm sure I'll be adding more later.

Santa was very good to me this year, I got my Sorel boots (yeah), Bulgari perfume (yum), and my brand new Mac!!!!!!!!computer. I'm typing on it right now. I love it. It's fabulous. It takes two wires to get it started and thats it. The keyboard and mouse are wireless as is the printer/scanner/copier. It's so much more convenient and less clutter. Which this Virgo girl likes. Thank you Santa. Hope you all got what you asked for. Little Prep said it best, "Mom, this is the best Christmas ever!"

Again, Happy 2011 to you lovelies. I hope its the best for us all.

Okay, so this past August I celebrated a pretty big birthday. I wanted to do something that I normally don't do...have a Jerseylicious Party. When I initially told people some of them laughed, some of them where excited and couldn't wait to dress and some were completely surprised and said "that's totally not you" and I said "I know that's exactly why I want to have this party, because who in their right mind would want to dress like these people below?

So, as you can see, despite everyones initial response to the party, they all seemed to enjoy getting into the "jerseylicious" role. I was very impressed with everyones Guido/Guidette roles. It took many hours for me to look that bad, from the teasing of the hair, to the layering of the make-up and mascara to the press on nails. By the way, I don't know how any one funtions with nails as long as knifes. Thank gosh I waited until after I applied my make-up, did my hair and got dressed before I put those suckers on. Everyone had an absolutely blast and was really into the dressing up! What will I do for my next big birthday. I've got some time before that happens. Lots of time.

NYC

Since my little hiatus from the blogging world, I did some traveling. In October, step-daugther turned Sweet 16. So, for years I have been telling her that I would take her to NYC. My favorite city and now hers. My mother-in-law joined us for a very fun filled long weekend. It was filled with fabulous meals at some fabulous restaurants, The Cupping Room, Plein Sud and Aqua Grill all in Soho. Pastis in the Meating Packing District and oh I can't forgot my nightly stops at Magnolia Bakery for some absolutel delicious red velvet cupcakes and red velvet cheesecake, oh my. We also saw the play, Wicked. The best play ever, highly recommend. And did some vintage shopping at the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market. It was a great weekend. Can't wait to go back.

I'm sorry to all my followers for the long wait, I was regrouping, relaxing, enjoying my time away from the blogging world and computers in general. I've been busy with the family, celebrating birthdays and just enjoying life. I'm so rejuvinated that I even ordered my Holiday Cards early. Woohoo, it's amazing that I was on the ball this year and I'm using a fabulous picture of the entire family. We haven't had a professional photo take of us since Little Prep was 1 and a half. Hi my lovely followers! I'm still alive and kicking. I've been enjoying my time away from the blog world. Lots of things have been happening since we last spoke. I relaxed and laughed with my girlfriends in Maine, I turned 40! and Little Prep has started preschool.

I'm still taking some time away from the blogging world. I'm currently using my husbands laptop because my computer decided to die on me. Thankfully, the computer guy was able to save all the photos on my computer he just couldn't bring back the computer. So, I'm shopping for a new computer.

As you can tell, my posts have become far and few between. This really hasn't been my year. I've been dealing with my mothers illness, energetic three year old, depressed, confused and angered step-children, stressed and overworked husband, vacation from hell, summer from hell, and stressed out me. Doesn't really leave me much happy things to want to write about. Not to sound like a downer but I have no energy left to write about things. So, I'm going to take a little R and R from blogging. I'm set to go to Camden, Maine with two of my girlfriends. I'm hoping with a few days to recharge myself, I'll be back to normal in no time. Enjoy the rest of your summers. I'll be back soon.

J. Crew vs Barbour

So, J.Crew just came out with their new Fall line and I've gotta tell you, It's AWESOME. Warm colors, comfy tops and cords and gorgeous jewelry. The one thing that really caught my eye was this waxed utility jacket for $148!

Compared to the Barbour Jacket, similar in style but not in Cost...$379!

In this economy, I'll stick with the J. Crew one. Although, when it comes to classic pieces one can always rely on the more expensive pieces that will last a life time! Happy Shopping.

Or in my case, the decorated will play. So, hubby was gone for two days, Sherwin-Williams was having a 40% sale yesterday only, and frankly, I was bored with the colors in my kitchen and living room and decided to PAINT! and move a lot of furniture around. Phew, I'm exhausted but OH so excited with the end result! Here are some pics! What do you think?

Kitchen was a boring and blah buff color! So I spiced it up a bit with, Bamboo Shoot. The decorated said it goes well with the color in my family room, Copula Yellow. Hubby didn't even notice when he got home and was hanging out in the kitchen, but once I mentioned he lot it looked fabulous-thank goodness. (does anyone have suggestions for a great on-line place for Jute Rugs besides Ballard Designs? Last year Little Prep decided to throw up on the previous sisal rug I had and I haven't had time to search for a new one. The family rooms measurements are 12x17 and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.)

So, then I moved on to the living room which used to be the dining room but it's so small that I decided to switch them. It's great because my husband has such a large family it's easier to accommodate for the Thanksgiving. Anywhoo, again it was a dull and blah neutral cream and now it's neutral on top, Thunder Grey on the bottom and I've switched furniture around added pictures here and there and I really think it's a cozy room!

Can you tell I like Paris! Okay and lastly, I changed some things around in the dining room. I'm not sure I'm going to keep the two corner cases on either side of the china cabinet but for now I'm going to keep them there. Hope you're having a productive weekend! Oh and I also managed to cut the front yard! Now, I really am exhausted.

Last night some high school/grade school friends of mine went out for a night on the town at Nemo's Grille! Two came all the way from North Caroline, one from Chicago, one from New York, one from Columbus, OH and of course me from Bay!

We had the most fantastic waiter. He was flirty, flattering, and totally made all of us 'almost 40' ladies feel like a million bucks. Now to the food, fabulous, always delicious. I've been going to Nemo's for ever spent many a birthday celebrations there and have taken the oldest kids there for family dinners! Anywhoo, we started off with some libations and appetizers, Ahi Tuna, Shrimp Cocktail, salads and bread. For the main course, the two Ohio girls had the Chilean Sea Bass - Truffle cheese sachetti pasta, grilled asparagus, marcona almond brown butter sauce, New York girl had margherita - Roasted tomatoes, fresh basil, mozzarella & provolone, Chicago girl had Pork Tenderloin Medallions - Parmigiano & mascarpone polenta, house vegetables, rosemary demi glace, North Carolina girls had Seared Sea Scallops - Wild mushroom & goat cheese risotto, grilled asparagus, black truffle vinaigrette and Calamari - Tempura fried with a spicy Thai chili aioli and auteed Gnocchi - with wild mushrooms, parmigiano & truffle oil. There was not a thing left over on our plates it was so delicious for everyone. We still had room for desserts, well a little room. We decided to split some desserts, I ordered the very sweet and peanut-y Cheesecake, so good melts in your mouth, creme brulee-fabulous, and the very light and fluffy vanilla and chocolate mouse. Absolutely the best food I've had in a while plus it was so great to sit down with the ladies with NO KIDS, NO HUSBANDS breathing down our necks. We were able to talk and laugh and laugh and laugh some more. Can't wait to do it again and hopefully sooner rather than years from now!

Oh forgot to mention we met this fabulous woman, Ann, who was so sweet and darling and had on the most adorable dress that we all just loved. She was so funny and wanted to join our group as opposed to her table of "stuffy" (in her words) group of business people. Ann if you're reading this we'd love to see you again! While vacationing in Maine, I was able to get away now and then and read the most hilarious book ever! I mean, it had me rolling, laughing with tears in my eyes. My husband didn't know if I was drinking in secret or truly enjoying this book. If you've never read any of her books, have a great sense of humor, don't mind swear words, sarcasm and matter-of-fact talk, then this is the book for you. She has several other "The Sweet Potato Queens Guide to (fill in the blank)" I was lucky enough to read my first of many titled "The Sweet Potato Queens Guide to Raising Children for Fun and Profit"

Even though every one in the household was sick as dogs, I managed to check out some shops in town.

Jo Ellen Designs is a breath of fresh air. It's displays are so effortless yet manicured in a way that looks like they had a design team put them all together. I met the owner while taking pictures, she let me know that she herself designs all the gorgeous hooked rugs and pillows. If you're ever up in Camden please stop in! Loved this clocks made with spoons and tea pot. How creative.

Starbird is somewhat similar in its simplicity and elegance but a bit more preppy and nautical. Starbird is right next door to Jo Ellen Designs.

And lastly, I stopped into the Camden Co-Op and saw some amazing antiques and not so amazing stuff. Here are a few things that I found charming and would look great in my house.

SATC 2 Movie Review!!!!!

Wednesday was the night I joined the ladies for drinks, dinners and the MOVIE! It was so nice to have a mini reunion with these ladies. Most of us went to high school together and although we live in the same town or neighboring town we barely see each other. Anywhoo, I entered the movie having already heard the horrible reviews the movie got so I wasn't expecting anything too great. I'm so glad I took those reviews with a grain of salt because let me tell you...I FRIGGIN LOVED IT! Loved the story lines (Charlotte having a stressed out mother moment, Miranda choosing her kids over her career, Carrie with the marriage slup and well I can't say I've reached Samantha's menopausal dilemma yet-thank God) Loved, loved, loved the clothes, I want them all and the shoes and jewels, especially the black diamond Big surprised Carrie with at the end. It was a great time and I'd see it again soon. What did you all think of the movie?

This weekend is filled with parties galore! I'm sure every one has a Memorial Day party but for some reason my friends wanted to make sure that I had something to do each night. How nice of them. Now I just need to find some cute outfits to wear. Despite the many compliments I get from all you lovely bloggers and my friends who see me daily, I still feel as though my fashion is lacking! I think Little Prep sucked out my fashion mojo when I nursed him for 15 months. Anywhoo, I have a cocktail party Saturday evening with some very chic women attending this soiree, so I need something fabulous. Now I know that in a previous post I mentioned wearing this necklace with this dress,

But now I'm thinking it may not be appropriate for a backyard cocktail party. I'm thinking more Lilly Pulitzer tunic with white jeans, cute thongs and some funky jewels. Oh what to do, what to do.

Next outfit dilemma, I have a evening potluck cookout with a girl I've become friends with through other friends. It will be much more casual since kids are going to be there and there will be lots of chasing Little Prep around on my part. The weather is supposed to be a bit cooler on Sunday and since we're by the lake, it makes it 10 degrees colder. Since I wasn't born with long, lean legs I'm going to to resort to my trusting bermuda shorts! With a cute shirt and denim shirt layered over it for warmth and some good ole fashioned flip-flops. David Beckham he's not...

Last night was Little Preps last soccer game of the season. I went to the game thinking that he was again going to play other sports on the side lines with the olders kids or sit on the sidelines enjoying snacks while being surrounded by girls.

Well, Little Prep completely surprised me. He ran onto the field with gusto, waited for the whistle to blow, took the ball down the field and dribbled all the way to SCORE HIS FIRST GOAL!!! I was so ecstatic I ran and kissed him. I didn't want to take away his excitement by telling him that he had just scored for the other team. At this age, every goal is celebrated. What a great ending to a great experience for me. My heart goes out to all those daycare/nursery school and elementary school teachers. It's very hard to wrangle ten 3-4 yrs old to pay attention to you for 10 seconds let alone a full 40 minutes of soccer. Good job Little Prep. Mommy and all are oh so proud!!

Half Marathon!

So, I finished the half marathon. My time was a lot better than what I anticipated doing. My official finish time was 2 hours 8 minutes and 56 sec! I couldn't believe. I felt great the first 6 miles, running at a great pace, breathing well, sweating a little bit. I was peeved because I didn't see any mile markers until mile 6 and my Nike+Ipod was not working! The women on my Ipod was telling me that at the 6 mile marker I had completed 2 miles in 54 minutes. I knew that wasn't true but still it was discouraging. Anywoo, After mile 8, I sort of hit the wall. I was getting a bit fatigued in my legs. Lungs felt great but my legs wanted to quit! I kept myself hydrated at every water spot but the energy shots (GU) were not kicking in fast enough. I walked/ran between miles 9.5-10.5. I finally could see an end to my run, saw my family right before the finish line which gave me a boost and then I finished. Was elated ,tired, stiff but relieved to have finished! Here are pics from the day. Thanks to all who helped me raise money for ITP Foundation, thanks to Groovin' On Granola for keeping me energized through out my training and thanks to all my friends, family and followers who cheered me on!

Well, the time has come. I've been preparing for this day since January. Tomorrow at 7 AM eastern standard time, I will be participating in the Cleveland Rite Aid Half Marathon!(t-shirt on left is the ITP Foundation which is the group I'm running for, and the t-shirt on the right is the official half marathon t-shirt and my bib number). I'm excited, anxious, nervous and most of all PREPARED! I'll let you all know how I did once I finish! Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

Mother's Day Recap

Little Prep and hubby woke me up with a lovely breakfast treat of poached eggs on thinly sliced wheat toast with a fresh glass of O.J. followed by a beautiful card from all three kids and gorgeous tulips! I then took my mother out for a nice quiet lunch for two. We never get time to sit by ourselves because Little Prep is usually vying for my attention. I then proceeded to my sister-in-laws for yet another meal of the day. Oh, but that wasn't the end of my day, I then met to friends out to say farewell to our friend and her boyfriend who are moving 'deep in the heart of Texas' Austin that is, lucky! I wish I could join them but I have responsibilities here. Oh well, here is a mother's day gift I gave to myself. It's on JCrew.com sale! Grab it while you can. I get tons of compliments on it!

So, today was the first day of me being Little Prep's soccer coach and his first soccer game of his life. I was so excited as a mother to see my son enjoy the same sport I played for several decades! Everyone was there to watch his first game, we had camcorders and cameras. Well, whistle blew and who decided to sit on the side lines and pout? Yes this guy.

He's still my lovable little boy! I just hope that next Saturday he actually plays.

I while back I was reading a post from one of my favorite bloggers, Preppy 50 and Loving Lilly. She was featuring this fantastic artist and her artwork on quality totes totes, tanks and now wristlets by, Elisa Francesca. Well, I of course was intrigued and wanted to know more. But more importantly how to get one! Well, you readers know that I love to shop and have the latest and greatest things in town (most of the time). So, I got one! Here's me with my tote, don't mind my outfit, I just finished a long run.

Elisa Francesca is the most gracious, nicest, kindest, talented artist I've never met face to face. She is so personable via emails and quick to answer any and all questions I had. Here is the adorable artist:

Estee Lauder Goodies

So, it's a little late for me to post this since I received these goodies from my Sorority Lil' Sis but I'm finally able to sit down and share with you the fun goodies she so kindly sent me! Lil Sis works for Estee Lauder and has since we met back in college many years ago. Anywhoo, here's what she sent me:

This is a pretty expensive bottle of 'youth serum' as I'm calling it. You can get it in larger size you just have to fork over more $$$! But sweet Lil Sis sent it to me for FREE!!! I've been using this serum every morning to diminish the fine lines around my eyes and smile lines, OH and under my eyes! It works and I'M LOVING my youthful look. Ehum, lil sis if you're reading this and have enormous supplies of this stuff you can send it my way:) Just saying.

Also, she sent me the "Free Gift" package. When I've received these from past purchases with make-up companies normally the colors don't work with my complexion and so I usually toss it. Which seems like a big waste to me but surprisingly the colors work really well with my coloring. I'm almost out of lipstick color.

J. Crew fashion on an Old Navy Budget

Okay, so I purchased my 'replacement' gold capri's from J. Crew. (Remember Mexico trip, the airlines baggage handlers stole my pair plus my Tory Burch flip-flips)

These are going for $39.50, that can seem pricey for such a little bit of shoe. Well, today I ran into Old Navy to pick up these cute madras shorts for Little Prep...

for $14.50 and came across these fabulous capri's for $30 less than the J.Crew ones. The big difference is the soles of the capri's and that's about it. Go out and get yourself several pairs. You know I did in this color bronze

and these silver beauties!

Also, replaced my old J.Crew flip-flops that I had for years with these cuties for only $7.50. Happy Shopping.

I've seen several blogs that I follow feature blue and white ginger jars and urns. I never really notice the small, small details in decor. But I started to see a lot of it and immediately fell in love. Here are some of the things that I'm coveting. I would love to get two of these lamps and put them in my bedroom.

Took the kids out of school and we all went down to the St. Patrick's Day Parade to watch their dad march in the parade. It was a great time for all of us to get dressed up in green whether it be a Lilly Pulitzer sweater with a Peapod necklace (thank you mother-in-law) or the kids coloring their hair green! Today my dad turns 65! I can't believe it. You always look at your parents and think they never age, that they're always 35! Well, for 65 my dad still looks fabulous. He just acts like an 80 year old man with his constant complaints of aches and pains, and digestion problems, and my eyes are going and my knees and hips and blah, blah, blah! Don't get me wrong the man exercises the an Olympic athlete, weighs 5 lbs more than he did in high school, doesn't have an ounce of fat on him. I'd like to know his secret or at least have that metabolism when I'm 65. Have a great year dad. (here's dad with his buddy, little prep on his 1st birthday)

Strip!

Hubby and I went to a fabulous new restaurant for his birthday celebration. Hubby and I first ordered appetizers, he enjoyed lavendar infused scallops (his favorite) and I ordered a very unique 'caprese' salad. It was mozzerella balls, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers tossed in a flavorful pesto sauce. Delish!!!! Next came our entrees, hubby ordered the 22 ounce t-bone steak, called 'The Big Daddy". Yes, you read that correctly. Twenty-two ounces. I'm ashamed to say he ate the whole damn thing! I had the mahi-mahi over sauteed spinach with fennel broth and a side of au gratin potatoes. It was wonderful.

Next course: Dessert! Let me just tell you that STRIP has by far the best dessert menu I have ever witnessed. I have never loved every item on a dessert list until I saw, STRIP's! I had to choose between 'monkey bread' with ice cream, creme brulee, cheesecake but I can't remember what flavor (I can tell you that it was something that I wanted), or S'mores at Strip! Could you just die! I ordered the S'mores at Strip. It was a large graham cracker with a brownie on top, large melted marshmellows with another graham cracker followed by lots of chocolate sauce drizzled all over. Hubby doesn't like dessert but he certainly enjoyed this dessert, as did I. We were so pleased with the whole experience, the staff was so pleasant and welcoming. From the hostess', bar staff, waitress to the owners.

The couple that owns the restaurant created a unique hot spot, great ambiance, great food, great drinks. Even the names on the menu are creative. I ordered a "tickle me pink" martini. Did I happen to mention that the chef/owners wife, who is also an owner, is a fellow high school alumni of ours! She was so gratious to hubby and I, she gave us two orders of the 'monkey bread' desserts to take home to the kids. They have been eating it all day. Thank you STRIP, Ron and Kim. We love your restaurant and look forward to many more memorable dinners!!!!

TEAM Stephanie and anyone who wants to help!

Dear TEAM Stephanie member,

The need to increase awareness, education and training for ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura) is paramount. After losing our seven year old daughter Stephanie, due to complications associated with ITP, we knew we had to make a difference. Before this tragedy in May 2008, no one we knew had ever heard of ITP. This must change! ITP occurs in about 4 in 100,000 children. We’re asking for your help in raising awareness and funds for the ITP Foundation because we think it's imperative that we help save other children’s lives in memory of our beautiful daughter Stephanie.

The best way to help The ITP Foundation is through spreading awareness and financial donations. We will be dedicating our walk at the 2010 Cleveland Marathon to Stephanie while raising money for The ITP Foundation.

ITP patients suffer from excessive bruising, nosebleeds, and bleeding gums. Children’s lives will dramatically be altered, often restricting them from sports and activities which could lead to an injury. Unfortunately, the various medical treatments used to help ITP patients (there is no cure) often have serious temporary and/or long term side effects. In most cases of ITP, the cause for the disease is still unknown.

Katie is now an executive board member for the ITP Foundation! All money raised through TEAM Stephanie will go straight to the foundation so they can use it to fund vital medical research and treatments, assist with medical grants, educate the public about this scary and delicate disease, and finally, provide financial assistance to the families of children with ITP.

Okay, Thank You XXXXX Airlines. I know it's been almost a month since we've been back from our trip. But when I unpacked from our trip last month I wasn't really paying much attention to what I was pulling out of my suitcase or should say not pulling out of my suitcase. Now that the weather has warmed up I was planning on wearing my cute leather capri's from J. Crew:

Couldn't find them. Pulled out my luggage to check the suitcase, NOTHING. Went through hubbies suitcase to see if I packed them in there, NOTHING. Went through ever slot in my shoe closet to find...NOTHING. While looking for the capri's I noticed another pair of (expensive) flip-flops not in the box. Remember these puppies I got on Ebay... correction not on Ebay, free with a gift certificate from mother-in-law!

Yes, those are missing too. I told hubby about it. Of course, he gave me the typical man answer, "you probably left them in the hotel". I said, NO, I did not. I kept my shoes in the same place in the closet all the time. I know I packed them and now they are both missing. I could understand losing one pair of shoes on a trip but two." No, I believe some sleeze bag from baggage gave his girlfriend, or herself two nice new pairs of summer sandals. I hope you get horrible blisters while wearing them which cause you severe pain with each step you take.

I realize I'm sounding a bit irrational, they are only flip-flops. But gosh darnit! I loved both of those pairs and I hate rude people. Especially liars, thieves and cheaters!!! Breath. Okay, I've got that off my chest. Now onto the search for new Tory Burch flip-flops. I know I can get those capri's at J. Crew today.

Run Preppy, Run

A classmate of my younger sister was dealt a horrible tragedy two years ago this May. Her beautiful seven year old daughter, pictured above, Stephanie passed away from a rare autoimmune disease called ITP. It was devastating to the whole community in which we live in, shouldn't have happened, but it did. Any who, since that time, Stephanie's parents, Katie and Doug, have worked hard to raise money for the ITP Foundation. One of the many ways that they've raised money is by sponsoring running teams. Well, I decided after quitting soccer that I still needed to keep my body in shape and thought that if I had a goal and a commitment to something wonderful that I should run. I joined a running team and will be running a 1/2 marathon for a great cause. So, back in January I started training for my half marathon which will take place on May 16, 2010.

For those of you who don't know, about 13 yrs ago (geez I can't believe it's been that long) I was living in Atlanta and wanted to challenge myself physical (allows been athletic) so I decided that I was going to run a marathon. But I needed others support and a purpose. I ran my first marathon on June 21, 1997 in Anchorage, Alask with Team in Training for the Leukemia Society. I ran for a young teen who was in remission with non-hodgkins lyphoma. It was a grueling race that I finished just under 5 hours, 4:59 to be exact. I figured if this teen can endure pain and suffering on a daily basis with her disease, I think I can run for 5 hrs and not bitch about it. I was proud of myself and swore I wouldn't be able to run again.

Well, here I am folks. Running a half marathon. I'm older, wiser and frankly my body just can't take anymore of those long, long runs. 13.1 is good for me. My training so far has been going great, I'm feeling good with all my runs, body hasn't broken down on me yet but I'm not quite up to the long 9 mile runs yet. I will keep you posted on my training! I'm so excited to be doing this for Stephanie, her parents and the ITP Foundation. Here is a link if any of you would like to donate or just check out the foundation.

Cabo adventure

Hubby thought it would be GREAT to kayak over to Lover's Beach. It's were the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific ocean merge. I didn't want to ruin his trip so I convinced myself to kayak with him. I was so fearful of Orca coming up and tipping over our kayak, instead we just had Andre the seal snorting around us. Which was pretty cool! So here are the pics from that day.

Okay, so second day in Cabo started out at the pool, here's hubby and I enjoying some rays.

After some much needed R&R at the pool, we decided to head downtown Cabo. The Marina is the place to be they have high end shops,

great food at Baja Lobster. Hubby and I enjoyed a very delicious appetizer of three different kinds of ceviche. OMG, it was to die for.

As we were enjoying our ceviche at Baja Lobster, which sat right on the marina. We noticed the local boats men ordering something from a small boat.

This boat carried extra large clams and oysters. The man and woman would slice up the clam and oyster meat, place it in a cup, squeeze fresh key lime juice and fresh chunky salsa into plastic cups. It looked so amazingly good!

We also were able to find some great drinks. Very LARGE drinks. Margarita anyone?

Night time. We got all dressed up to go the 'ecletic' restaurant called, Krystal. I was not too impressed with the food. The starter dish consisted of 3 mini appetizers, and I mean mini. I almost couldn't find them on the plate. I had the sea bass, hubby had the filet. It was OK.

After I lovely dinner, we resorted back to the room. I was exhausted each night from sun and fun during the day. More pics to come.

First day in Cabo...

Hubby and I stayed at the fabulous Riu Palace Resort in Cabo San Lucas, it's about a 45 minute drive from the airport and a 10 minute drive into downtown. We had a great view of the "lover's beach" from our hotel room,

This lovely whale was waiting for us when we opened our hotel door! Loved the room, it was so clean, well taken care of. They didn't skimp on anything in this room. Lovely tile floors, marble, and great woodwork.

After a very long, long, long flight, going through customs and the drive to the hotel, we unpacked our suits and headed for the pool. Here's hubby enjoying the water...

First night out, we ate at the Steak house. The food wasn't that spectacular but the view certainly was, lights on boats floating in the ocean, the breeze blowing and hubby sitting by my side.

Okay, so you will notice that my hair looked fairly smooth, flat and neat. Here's a close up of what it looked like when I arrived in Cabo.

And here is what it looked like every morning when I woke up. CAUTION: what you are about to see may frighten you, your children, your pets. Please view cautiously.

No joke. This is what my hair looked like every morning. It was uncontrollable, hilarious and scary. And unmanageable. I had to keep it back in a ponytail most of the time.

Gotta get going, there's still more to share, but little prep is about to get up from his nap and he doesn't like it when I'm on the 'puter'. Will share more tomorrow.

I'm sorry, I know I promised photos and I want to make sure I leave you with a good impression of Cabo. I'm very exhausted. We got in very late last night. Little Prep was so excited to see hubby and I that he talked our ear off for an hour after we got home. Hubby snored through the night, my mind started to race through the night of all things I have to do (aka back to reality). Plus, I just want to soak in my family this week. So, I will be working on a post of all things Cabo for next week. Enjoy the week my friends.

Hello from the Cabo! Just wanted to drop a quick note to you lovely followers of mine, that hubby and I are truly haven't the best time of our lives. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time! Hubby has brought me to tears I've been laughing so hard. We have just been enjoying each others company with out any interruptions from kids, laying by the pool, enjoying the atmosphere and doing some fun activities. Today we kayaked to the famous arches where the pacific meets the sea of cortez (i hope that's correct or right now I sound like a moron). Hope everyone is well where they are and enjoying life. We skyped with the kids today, boy was it hard to say goodbye, missing them lots. Okay. Must go, gotta to get ready for this evenings festivities. Have tons of pics to share. Can't wait to show you all.

What are you going to get your sweetie? Normally, hubby and I don't exchange gifts on Valentine's Day. But I couldn't resist, he deserves it. It's nothing too extravagant but he's worth it. He mentioned liking this watch a while back but I didn't think he was serious. Plus he has two watches already. I thought 'why not' it's perfect for casual days and our upcoming trip to Mexico. So this is what I got him....It's the Timex Military watch from yes, J. Crew. I plan on getting him both the red and khaki bands so he can change them to his moods or outfits. (He probably won't be doing that b/c he'll think it's too much time and effort to change the band)

The weight loss count down has officially begun. I've been slacking a bit because I was suffering from a horrible ear infection, then, Little Prep got a cold, three days with a fever, vomiting and then I got his cold. Ugh! So, now I'm back and ready to workout and drop a few lbs if it's possible before Cabo San Lucas in 17 days!!!

woohoo, so this morning I had a half a grapefruit, tea and 2 egg whites. Going to be drinking LOTS of water and then hit the gym. It's been a while since I've been to the gym because I've been feeling so bad with this cold. I thought I had mono I was so exhausted all the time. Wish me luck. Will keep you updated on my progress.

Groovin' On Granola

A high school schoolmate of mine lives in the Dallas area and has been a very successful franchiser for years. Recently, he's ventured off on his own and created, Groovin' On Granola. It's an all natural, Gluten-Free snack. As some of you know, my step-son has Celiac Disease. Celiac Disease is an allergy to gluten and wheat. It's very difficult to find good tasting substitutes for cookies, donuts, breads, pasta's the list goes on and on. You name it, anything made with gluten he can NOT have. So, when I came upon my friends snack I thought I'd order them and give it a whirl. And so glad I did. Let me tell you that I've tried every single snack that my step-son has and most of them taste like a wet smelly sock!!!

So, Groovin' On Granola taste like HEAVEN. It has rolled oats, almonds, pumpkin seeds, brown sugar and so much more. There are NO artificial flavors, addititives, preservatives. All the ingredients are recognizable and easy to pronounce. If you are in the Dallas, Houston area they have several spots where you can buy locally!

Here is the exact bedroom style that I'm stealing from L.L.Bean for Little Prep's room. He's got the furniture that will totally match, I just need to get the madras print bag, Nor'easter lamp, whale rug, sheets, comforter cover, shams and that adorable blue pillow with his monogram "J". Oh and I need to turn his toddler bed into a full bed. (we got the 3-1 converter bed i.e. crib, toddler, then full bed. Pricey but well worth it) How friggin cute. Love it. I'm sure when he's in high school he'll ask me to change it all to something that I will completely HATE!!!!I'd make this style my bedroom but I don't think hubby would like :)

My apologies once again for being M.I.A. The winter isn't my season. Not much going on, particularly when it's 18 degrees out. I don't like going out in the cold, can't stand it. No parties to attend, no functions to attend, NOTHING. So, if you were wondering where I've been, I've been snuggled up with Little Prep keeping warm. I will be back soon, I think I sort of have writer's block or just the winter blues. Also, I've got pre-school interviews and sign-ups for Little Prep and that's sort of keeping me preoccupied that and getting my a$$ in shape for next months trip to Mexico. Oh, I did join a gym and happy to say I've been very consistant with my workouts once a day!!!! Will keep you posted. For now, I'm just going to relax. But don't fret, don't drop me like some one just did yesterday. I will be back. Love you all, thanks for following.

Cabo Wabo

So, hubby has surprised me with a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Hubby doesn't do much trip planning especially out of state. So, I was super surprised when he said we are going for a couples weekend ONLY to Cabo!!! Here's where we'll be staying:

Riu Palace in Cabo San Lucas! The view is fabulous. Here is another view from the room. Hubby wanted to specifically go to Cabo so that he can kayak around the rock formations, while I enjoy the sun, shops and spa!

I'm so excited. But first, need to start the "Mexico Diet/Exercise Plan". I've got over a month to drop about 10 lbs and tighten up the abs, thighs and arms!!! I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Oh, one can NOT forget a wardrobe. I've been searching the web for some cute bathing suits and cover-ups and coming up empty. Does anyone have any suggestions or websites I should search. Already, checked Victoria's Secrets, J. Crew and Snappy Turtle.
